The owners cooked outside constantly and were doing it on a rolling cart at the edge of the patio. The brief was a permanent kitchen that looked like it belonged to the house rather than parked beside it.
The island is built in block and faced in Unilock Dimensional Limestone, with a course of Copthorne Basalt run as accent banding to tie it to the border of the existing patio. Gas and electric were brought out and roughed in before the first block went down.
Granite countertops top the run, with a stainless steel natural gas grill, storage below and enough counter on both sides to actually work. The finished island sits at standing height on the cooking side and doubles as a bar on the patio side.
